{"id":1426,"date":"2009-03-03T00:09:01","date_gmt":"2009-03-03T00:09:01","guid":{"rendered":"\/soundmirrors\/?page_id=1426"},"modified":"2018-03-16T21:10:01","modified_gmt":"2018-03-16T21:10:01","slug":"seaham","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.andrewgrantham.co.uk\/soundmirrors\/locations\/seaham\/","title":{"rendered":"Seaham sound mirror"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/images\/mirror\/mirror-seaham-ivor_parrington.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/mirror\/mirror-seaham-ivor_parrington.jpg\" alt=\"Seaham sound mirror in 1976 (Photo: Ivor Parrington)\" title=\"Seaham sound mirror in 1976 (Photo: Ivor Parrington)\" width=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1196\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ivor Parrington sent the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.communigate.co.uk\/ne\/seahamfamilyhistorygroup\/page3.phtml\">Seaham Family History Group<\/a> a 1976 photograph of the now demolished acoustic mirror at Seaham.<\/p>\n<p>The design looks like the World War I sound mirrors at <a href=\"\/soundmirrors\/locations\/boulby\/\">Boulby<\/a>, <a href=\"\/soundmirrors\/locations\/redcar\/\">Redcar<\/a> and <a href=\"\/soundmirrors\/locations\/sunderland\/\">Sunderland<\/a> in the northeast, and the one at <a href=\"\/soundmirrors\/locations\/selsey\/\">Selsey<\/a> in Sussex. The sketch of the reported mirror at <a href=\"\/soundmirrors\/locations\/hartlepool\/\">Hartlepool<\/a> looks the same too.<\/p>\n<p>This evidence could date the Seaham mirror to about 1916.<\/p>\n<p>There is some discussion from people who remember it and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seahamscenes.com\/SoundMirror.jpg\">painting of it<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seahamscenes.com\/page23.html\">Seaham Scenes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Location<\/h2>\n<p>There is nothing left at the site now. <\/p>\n<p>David Angus of the Seaham online community history project <a href=\"http:\/\/www.east-durham.co.uk\">www.east-durham.co.uk<\/a> has tracked down the probable location of the Seaham sound mirror, though cautions &#8220;it is at least 55 years since I saw it and then only once.&#8221; He found two men who agree on the location shown.
