{"id":6921,"date":"2017-06-26T23:59:39","date_gmt":"2017-06-26T22:59:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.andrewgrantham.co.uk\/afghanistan\/?p=6921"},"modified":"2017-06-27T20:34:55","modified_gmt":"2017-06-27T19:34:55","slug":"afghanistan-and-china-sign-railway-feasibility-study-memorandum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.andrewgrantham.co.uk\/afghanistan\/afghanistan-and-china-sign-railway-feasibility-study-memorandum\/","title":{"rendered":"Afghanistan and China sign railway feasibility study memorandum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Afghan Ambassador to China Janan Mosazai and a Chinese construction company signed a memorandum of understanding on 8 June 2017 for a Chinese-funded feasibility study to be conducted within the next 12 months for a railway line which would run from Sher Khan Bandar on the border with Tajikistan to Herat.<sup class='footnote'><a href='#fn-6921-1' id='fnref-6921-1' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(6921)'>1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Oddly, various news reports talk about &#8220;reconstruction&#8221;<\/a><sup class='footnote'><a href='#fn-6921-2' id='fnref-6921-2' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(6921)'>2<\/a><\/sup> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pajhwok.com\/en\/2017\/06\/08\/china-help-build-power-dam-kabul-river\">&#8220;reviving&#8221;<\/a> a railway, although there has not been a line from Sher Khan Bandar to Herat.<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t find details of which company is involved.
