The Afghanistan Railway Authority has joined the International Union of Railways, the body which aims “to promote rail transport at world level and meet the challenges of mobility and sustainable development” by sharing best practice, supporting members’ efforts to develop new business and new areas of activities, improving technical and environmental performance and promoting interoperability.1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

Afghanistan becomes a member of the International Union of Railways<\/h3>\n

Kabul \u2013 The membership of Afghanistan to the International Union of Railways<\/a> (UIC) was officially declared at the 83rd General Assembly ofthe UIC held on December 12 in Paris. Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Paris and the Afghanistan Railways representative participated in this biannual meeting.<\/p>\n

Afghanistan acquires this membership while completing the construction of regional railway line pieces through the two main trade and transit ports to the railway ring network by 2040. At present, the construction of 75 km Hairatan-Mazar-e-Sharif railway line<\/a> has been completed and the construction of 124 km railway line from Herat to Islam Qala<\/a> is under construction<\/a>. These two pieces of railway are parts of a 3429 km railway line which will be completed by 2025.<\/p>\n

Membership of this Union not only aids in the facilitation of transiting Afghan and South Asian goods, but also cooperates in the security of railways, their efficiency and credibility of the interaction of railways with international standards. Looking at Afghanistan’s geographic location, members in this Union is not only beneficial to the country but also significant in terms of regional economic interaction among countries in the region. Afghanistan\u2019s regional economic integration and credibility relates to the full integration and coordination with regional and international standards.<\/p>\n

The UIC currently has 204 members.<\/p>\n

L\u2019Afghanistan devient membre de l\u2019Union Internationale des Chemins de Fer<\/h3>\n

Pour la premi\u00e8re fois, l\u2019Afghanistan a particip\u00e9, jeudi 12 d\u00e9cembre, \u00e0 l\u2019assembl\u00e9e g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de l\u2019UIC qui s\u2019est tenue \u00e0 Paris. L\u2019adh\u00e9sion de l\u2019Afghanistan \u00e0 cette organisation mondiale du transport ferroviaire, comprenant pas moins de 240 membres r\u00e9partis sur cinq continents a \u00e9t\u00e9 approuv\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019unanimit\u00e9. La d\u00e9l\u00e9gation afghane amen\u00e9e par S.E. Dr Assad Omer, ambassadeur d\u2019Afghanistan \u00e0 Paris, \u00e9tait compos\u00e9e notamment de Mr Yama Yaris, ing\u00e9nieur et conseiller de l\u2019Autorit\u00e9 des Chemins de Fer d\u2019Afghanistan. Malgr\u00e9 les quelques dix mille kilom\u00e8tres de routes asphalt\u00e9es construites et les immenses progr\u00e8s r\u00e9alis\u00e9s en mati\u00e8re de transport, il est indispensable de poursuivre la construction des chemins de fer afghans. Cette activit\u00e9 ferroviaire s\u2019av\u00e8re indispensable au d\u00e9veloppement \u00e9conomique du pays permettant des connections avec les pays de la r\u00e9gion. L\u2019ambassadeur Omer dans son allocution de remerciement a soulign\u00e9 que l\u2019Afghanistan avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 dans les ann\u00e9es 10 construit un court chemin de fer et c\u2019est seulement dans les ann\u00e9es 70 qu\u2019une \u00e9tude compr\u00e9hensive a \u00e9t\u00e9 entreprise en coop\u00e9ration avec la France<\/a>. Les \u00e9v\u00e9nements tragiques dont l\u2019Afghanistan a \u00e9t\u00e9 victime n\u2019ont pas permis d\u2019aller plus loin dans la mise en \u0153uvre de l\u2019\u00e9tude. Les ann\u00e9es 2000 ont vu la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019une autorit\u00e9 et l\u2019\u00e9laboration de projets ambitieux. Nous sommes d\u00e9termin\u00e9s \u00e0 retrouver notre place dans la route de la soie reliant l\u2019Extr\u00eame-Orient, l\u2019Asie Centrale, l\u2019Asie du Sud, le Moyen-Orient et l\u2019Europe. L\u2019UIC nous apportera une coop\u00e9ration pr\u00e9cieuse. L\u2019autorit\u00e9 des chemins de fer en tant que membre pourra b\u00e9n\u00e9ficier des expertises et de la formation dont a parl\u00e9 le directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral Mr Loubinoux.<\/p>\n
