The government of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mfa.gov.pl\/en\/news\/historic_tank_to_return_to_poland_from_afghanistan\" title=\"Historic tank to return to Poland from Afghanistan. 20 October 2012\">Afghanistan has given Poland<\/a> a French-built WWI era <a href=\"http:\/\/www.landships.freeservers.com\/ft17_info.htm\">Renault FT-17 tank<\/a> which had survived in Kabul. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/images\/rail\/pl-tank-renault-ft17-mfa.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/rail\/pl-tank-renault-ft17-mfa.jpg\" alt=\"Renault FT-17 tank\" title=\"FT-17 tank delivered to Poland from Afghanistan, October 2012 (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>FT-17 tanks were used by Polish forces in the Polish\u2013Soviet War of 1919-21. Some were captured by Russian Bolshevik forces, and subsequently given to the Amir of Afghanistan in 1923 (that would have been <a href=\"\/afghanistan\/tag\/amanullah\/\">King Amanullah<\/a>). <\/p>\n<p>In recent years westerners released a few of these tanks had survived in Afghanistan, and some went to the USA and France for preservation. <\/p>\n<p>The Polish President asked the Afghan President for one, and at the end of October it was flown to Poland for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mfa.gov.pl\/en\/news\/mfa_continues_its_cooperation_with_armour_museum_in_poznan\">restoration at the Land Forces Training Centre<\/a> in Poznan, and eventual display in the Warsaw military museum, &#8220;a testament to the Polish-Afghan friendship and a recognition of Poland&#8217;s contribution to the reconstruction of Afghanistan&#8221;, according to Poland&#8217;s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cswl.mil.pl\/index.php\/czolg-ft-17-w-poznaniu\/\">details in Polish, with photos<\/a>.\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mfa.gov.pl\/en\/news\/historic_tank_to_return_to_poland_from_afghanistan\" title=\"Historic tank to return to Poland from Afghanistan. 20 October 2012\">Ministry of Foreign Affairs<\/a> release<\/li>\n<li>Forum with <a href=\"http:\/\/forum.worldoftanks.eu\/index.php?\/topic\/169921-tier-i-tank-on-the-move-ft-17-flew-from-afghanistan-to-poland\/\">some details in English<\/a>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>No trains, but this is quite interesting.
