{"id":268,"date":"2008-04-08T22:11:21","date_gmt":"2008-04-08T22:11:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ccgi.ajg41.plus.com\/?p=268"},"modified":"2012-09-08T22:11:57","modified_gmt":"2012-09-08T21:11:57","slug":"nato-rail-access-to-afghanistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.andrewgrantham.co.uk\/afghanistan\/nato-rail-access-to-afghanistan\/","title":{"rendered":"NATO rail access to Afghanistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.uz\/en\/content.scm?contentId=34998\">address by Uzbekistan&#8217;s President at the NATO Summit<\/a> in Bucharest on April 3 2008 mentions rail access on the Uzbek Railways line to Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n<a href='\/images\/rail\/islam-karimov.jpeg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/rail\/islam-karimov.jpeg\" alt=\"Islam Karimov, President of Uzbekistan\" title=\"Islam Karimov\" width=\"130\" height=\"195\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-269\" \/><\/a> Taking this opportunity, I would like to state that Uzbekistan stands ready to discuss and sign with NATO the Agreement on providing for corridor and transit through its territory to deliver the non-military cargos through the border junction <strong>Termez-Khayraton<\/strong>, practically the sole <strong>railway connection<\/strong> with Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the sovereign interests on maintaining the security and legislation of our country must be observed.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement on railway transit of <span lang=\"de\">Bundeswehr<\/span> cargos through the territory of Uzbekistan signed by Uzbekistan with the German side on March 4 this year could be taken as basis for the future Agreement.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>An agreement has also been reached &#8220;to allow the alliance to ship non-lethal <a href=\"http:\/\/www.summitbucharest.ro\/en\/doc_210.html\">freight across Russian territory<\/a> to military forces in Afghanistan&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The address by Uzbekistan&#8217;s President at the NATO Summit in Bucharest on April 3 2008 mentions rail access on the Uzbek Railways line to Afghanistan.
