Third phase of Khaf to Herat railway complete
Local officials in western Herat province on Tuesday [8 January 2019] said that the third phase of Khawaf-Herat railroad has been completed and that the project will be inaugurated in the near future.
The fourth phase of the project will be implemented soon too, said officials.

Aqina – Andkhoy study to be completed this year
Construction of Aqina-Andkhoi Railway to Begin Next Year, writes Tamim Shaheer at Tolo News on 7 August 2011: According to the Ministry, the railway has a length of six kilometers [sic – previously reported as 36] and will be constructed with financial aid from Turkmenistan … construction of third railway will begin next year in Jowzjan province, and currently the study phase is underway … “I think the study phase of this project will be completed by the end of this year, and if there is no problem the practical phase will start next year,” Ahmad Shah Wahid, Deputy Minister for Public Works Ministry said.
Railway not in use yet
“Hairatan-Mazar Railway Not Yet Utilised” writes Tamim Shaheer at Tolo News on 12 April 2011.
The work of the railway connecting Hairatan border with the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif has not been completed as planned. … The Afghan Ministry of Public Works said an operational team is to come to Afghanistan from the neighboring Uzbeskistan to help speed up the work.
The Ministry says the construction company is to employ 600 workers soon to complete the project so that the railway can be utilised soon.
